Yes! There’s so much social pressure to give these big gifts. It’s like a box to click often devoid of meaning. But like u say, I think people - actually adults not kids ;) - would much prefer a gift with a story no matter how “valuable” or big or expensive it is.

I love Paul Newmans heart X-ray! Their love was known to be so special and rare- especially between two famous actors.

On the damaged Duchamp ampule, I hope they repaired it back in Paris and not in NYC or it doesn’t count! ;)

Exactly: a box to tick devoid of meaning. What if there was no box and ALL meaning instead? 😉 Paul New man’s gift is thoughtful: with all the money he had, I loved that’s what he chose for a gift. It goes to show that the most memorable gifts are rarely the expensive ones. And I think the Duchamp ampule was fixed in NY, so definitely a cheat!

I love love love this roundup and now just want to come up with wild surrealist gifts for friends à la Dalí

Thank you!! I also want to make surrealist unique gifts for friends -- though I'm not sure a barbed wire harp would be appreciated 😂

No, I think we'll need a slightly softer and less poky version haha
