Seven Senses is published every full moon, exploring a different topic through the senses. Occasionally on the new moon, like today, I also publish an additional treat for paid subscribers. 

Inspired by the latest Seven Senses theme, I wanted to offer you a personalized astrology card, highlighting your own zodiac signs.

At the risk of sounding too ‘woo-woo’, I confess my affinity for astrology. As a writer and visual artist, it’s a symbolic language that resonates with me. Astrology has always fascinated me but it’s only last year that I started diving deeper – even taking classes. The more I learn about this ancient practice, the more I realize how much there is to discover – about its rich history, complex teachings, and nuanced perspectives. I’ve only scratched the cosmic surface but I wanted to share some of the insights I’ve gained. 

In Western astrology, each of us has a “natal chart” – a cosmic map of what the sky looked like the exact moment you were born. It shows the configuration of each planet and asteroid; their exact degree and the ways in which they’re interconnected.  Every single birth chart is unique. 

Though a lot of people are acquainted with their “Sun” sign, that’s only a small fragment of the whole story. For astrologers, every planet offers insight into someone’s personality, gifts and challenges. The ones considered the most fundamental are the Sun, Moon and Ascendant (also known as “rising sign”), each representing an important aspect of ourselves:

• The Sun symbolizes our personality and where we naturally shine

• The Moon is associated with our emotions and inner self

• The Ascendant/ Rising Sign represents whom we’re becoming 

For those curious to learn about their Sun, Moon and Ascendant, I’m creating custom Astrology Cards this month for paid subscribers. Based on your exact birth time and location, I’ll hand-draw your “Astro Trio” along with a short description.
